THE INSTITUTION:

The Metropolitan Tribunal of Abuja is an institute in the Archdiocesan Curia which assists the Archbishop in exercising his judicial power. It is an extension of the Archbishop’s judicial ministry to the people of the Archdiocese of Abuja.  This office is staffed by priests and religious trained in Canon Law, together with their support staff.

The Tribunal is one part of the Church’s effort to offer healing and hope to the victims of those in invalid marriages.  The Tribunal investigates these situations to determine whether the parties in certain instances may be free to remarry.

Because the salvation of souls is the supreme law in the Church, the Tribunal must always safeguard the bonds of Holy Matrimony and must observe the canonical principle that a marriage is presumed valid unless and until proven otherwise. The Tribunal gathers as much information as possible in investigating claims of invalidity. When proof is lacking, however, the Tribunal has no power to declare a marriage invalid. In such a case, if the spouses cannot be persuaded to reconcile, the Church must rely on pastoral means to help them live as full a Christian life as is possible in their situation.

For more information please call 2347084198849/2348079258595 The Tribunal also accepts general questions regarding the nullity of marriage at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
